The art of influence

Having your views heard and heeded is essential on a number of planes. There is a myriad of other factors that will determine how influential you will be and most of them are not to do with the intrinsic merit of your wishes or opinions.

We consider various aspects of influence including many from the following:

• Definitions of influence

• Attributes of influential people

• Personality type

• Preferred communication styles

• Negotiation styles

• Dale Carnegie’s recommendations

• Transactional analysis

• Roberto Cialdini’s ‘Influence’ and his six ‘weapons of compliance’

• Gary Hartzell’s attributes of influential people

• Body language

• How advertising works

• Rapport building techniques

• Co-operation techniques & language

• Environmental issues

During the workshops you will relate the principles of influence to at least two people that you with whom you would like to have more influence. You will be well prepared to further practice the skills and insights learned in this workshop for more rewarding relationships with your colleagues, friends and families.

Time management

In this workshop you will review 4 approaches to effective time management that you can adopt and adapt. You will discover the art of intelligent neglect. You will critically appraise perfectionism and see how to become more commercial. We will also deal with emotional and energy blocks to better performance. A practical and entertaining session which will see you better placed to make more of your time both in the workplace and privately.

A three to four hour workshop – any longer is a waste of time!

Recent engagements by Ian include conducting needs analyses, course design and delivery for:

• IT consultants moving from a contracting mode of service delivery to the higher value consulting model

• Project Managers to win more business through relationship marketing rather than by competitive tender

• IT consultants to improve their consulting service delivery to win more repeat business from their existing client base

• Internal consultants in a Shared Services unit to be more pro-active and to take leadership in the company's quest for continuous improvement

• Investment Consultants to be more professional, systematic and consultative approach in their service delivery

• Facilitation of a one day planning, direction setting and problem solving event for a special interest group

• Coachees in a number of organisations including one who is moving the organisation to a consultative model of business from the older transaction mode.

• Ian also contributed as a member of the Leadership Group of Brisbane Facilitators' which he took initiatives to establish in September 2006.
