Why be a Consultant?

So, why be a consultant?...

Do work you like to do. Avoid the Peter Principle of rising to your level of incompetence. Stay competent and get even better
You no longer have to be involved with office politics. You need to know the politics, but you can be an observer - like a journalist
Work with clients you like. Seek out challenging, interesting and enjoyable work
It's more enjoyable

If you decide to adopt a higher profile - to consult and freelance more than contract, then you will have these options:

Work at your own pace - work hard and smart and be well rewarded. Work slower and smell the roses
Choose when you want to work: owls work late into the night; larks get up early
Work from home or near home, which doesn't have to be in the city
Enjoy the variety. Continuous experiences of different places, people and cultures. Different challenges and different rewards - stimulating!
It's better than most of the alternatives!
