Target Group People with up to three years experience in their own business or those new to, or contemplating consulting, freelancing or contracting.
What happens on Day One? The emphasis is on building a viable consultancy - the issues relating to set-up are quite straight forward and are dealt with in the last hour of the workshop. They are also covered extensively in the manual. We start by clarifying the various types of consulting that you may practice - consulting, contracting and freelancing, and how to position yourself in the market. Then 90 minutes on how to market consulting and contracting services. This is designed to make you comfortable and confident in seeking engagements. The strategy section follows where you receive the key check list on how to run your business - the must do's and the must not do's. There is a lot of wise counsel in this section as is arguably the least understood by all those people who just set up and hope that it all goes well. After lunch you spend 90 minutes on pricing, fee setting and negotiating fees. You also receive budgets for your business. Extensive documentation is provided throughout the day. The last hour deals with set-up, office location, key legal and tax aspects. At the end of Day 1 you are all set to go and you have a realistic insight and feeling of what it is like to be self employed as a consultant, contractor or freelancer.

Target Group This program is for more experienced consultants, contractors and freelancers who want to revitalise their marketing, newer consultants who are clear about the type of business they want to build and for consulting firms wanting to develop effective marketing programs and tools.
What happens on Day Two? You develop your own marketing strategies and outline marketing plan. All practising consultants need to go through this process and here is an opportunity to make substantial progress in one day. You will consider over 20 marketing strategies in a consulting context - that is, what is suitable for you and your business. Particular attention is given to networking techniques, websites, letters and proposals to clients, leveraging through industry bodies. It is valuable if you are starting from scratch or if you want to give an existing business a boost. Day 2 is quite specific to your situation so you need to have some ideas about what you will consult in. You will be much better prepared to start or to continue your business.
